Once again it was another early start. At first I woke up to that reoccurring bank job dream, until I realised that it was actually an alarm going off, but it wasn’t the banks, it was my own. So I crawled downstairs and mixed myself a double dose of caffeine in attempt to wake up from my post sleep malaise. With coffee on the go my housemate and I decided to go over to a friends’ place to see his newly born daughter.
We made our way casually into town and headed to the imperial for a quick pint and some lunch as our train didn’t leave till 2:45pm. Sun was shining, weather was sweet as Finley Quaye would say. After lunch we headed down to the station and jumped on the train, heading for the exotic location of Totnes. Truth or Spuddle? Totnes is actually twinned with Narnia? Truth, absolutely 100% true! For those that don’t live in the south west, then first of all shame on you, and secondly Totnes is clearly the hippy capital of England. After a brief sojourn of hippy-spotting we arrived at my mate’s new apartment. As you’d imagine from a 26yr old techie banjo playing yuppie it was transcendentally hippie, and packed with espresso makers, candles and crystals. With a balcony overlooking the river and a loft conversion turned into a music-room/office, the flat certainly has a lot of style in an unorthodox upside down formation.
Of course the real reason we were there apart from to see an old friend and his lovely lady was to see Luena. Two months old and already a complete sweetie. Possibly the quietest baby I have held in my entire life. Within minutes she had been past round all her adoptive uncles and each one was awarded with a stuck out tongue and the cheekiest of smiles. Keeping Luena amused was the essential job of the day, even when she started to cry all you had to do was pick her up and bench press her into happiness. Most bizarre, but ultimately refreshing.
