Much drama, much drama indeed! The usual working day came and went with standard regularity. I’ve started to notice that since going back to an office job coffee no longer has the effect on me that it once did. This is perhaps because when you work in an office you drink nothing but coffee, unless your one of those lily-livered tea drinkers! So a dozen cups later spread out intermittently with a pack of Marlborough’s and I found myself once again loving that 5:30 feeling. It’s almost like getting out of jail after a 10 year stretch, but without the awkward shower experiences.
So I skipped my way home and everything was well with the world. By 7:30 I’d eaten and decided to head up to the bar to catch the all important Liverpool v Arsenal game. Wow what a game that was. At first I thought I’d support Liverpool considering that the game would be a deal breaker for the league, but then I realised that if an on-form Liverpool couldn’t beat a less consistent Arsenal then they didn’t really deserve to win the Premiership at all.
For the first half an hour Liverpool put on a dominant display with only Arsenal’s young keeper Fabianski keeping the Gunnars in it. Without him it could easily have been 3:0 to the Scouse army by half time. Arsenal’s start was poor, but as luck would have a short stocky Russian put the Gunnars in front with practically Arsenal’s first shot of the game. After that the game descended into goal madness. After the break Torres and Benayoun put Liverpool in front and the tide appeared to have turned again. Arshavin spanked in a 20 yarder and then followed up with his 3rd of the game. A nice little turn and snatch shot within the box put Liverpool level and Torres claimed his 2 of the game.
Things looked pretty much wrapped up after a Liverpool corner went wrong and Walcott broke up the wing. A quick release from Theo and Arshavin once again hammered it home taking his count to 4. With 2 minutes to go Benayoun levelled the game to 4-4 with a last ditch penalty area scramble.
Probably the best game I’ve seen all season, a brilliant 4-4 thriller with end to end action and an outstanding performance from Arshavin.
