Global Warming Hits Azeroth
I have always wanted to make a machinima, but I have never really had the time. Due to the current economic crisis I found myself temporarily out of work so I decided to try and make one, to see what I could do. For years now I have been an mmorpg’r and I have regularly played Blizzard’s WoW since its release in 2004. If you take a quick spin through the tinterweb you will find hundreds of machinimia. Some of my favourite include this tribute to Ray Harryhausen and Strongbad’s Trogdor which I couldn’t see on the site, but all the rest can be found on Homestarrunner.com. The majority of machinimas are humorous and shall we say less than polished. Yet, there are some like Percunia’s Blind: Craft of war series that are visually and technically spectacular. Blind is rendered and animated in superb quality and must have taken a great deal of time to create.
My project was a bit different. I wanted to try and combine my love of machinima with my passion for the environment. I wanted to try and draw a parallel between what’s happening around us and how that is also visually represented in the mmorpg world. Whether you believe in global warming or not doesn’t matter, what is important is that you get involved and start trying to make your little corner of the world as green and as eco-friendly as you can. It’s easy to be greener it just requires a bit more thought and consideration, that’s all.
Please support the fight against global warming and help tackle climate change.
The film is far from brilliant and some of the footage is a bit dodgy, but I had fun making it and that what matters. Please take a look and send us your feedback, but don’t let the flaming scorch the ceiling. I know it’s not great, but it was my first try and to be honest I’m quite happy with the end product. So sit back and take a look at Azeroth’s Guide to Climate Change.
Thanks for promoting Earth Hour! Another way you can recruit people to the cause is by creating a Earth Hour group on Commit21.com. Simply create a group about one action that you will commit to do for Earth Hour and recruit your friends, family, and co-workers to get involved in that action as well. When it comes to climate change, simple actions can make huge differences and Commit21 leverages social media to influence networks of friends, family, and co-workers. Check it out at Commit21.com

I’ve been playing WoW for several years myself now as a druid, and indeed those problems we see in WoW we can directly relate to the problems in the world. As druid however I also seen numerous ways to solve the big problems. Mainly through Moonglade, where everyone is accepted as who they are. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Kars, much appreciated – highlighting parallels is a great way to raise awareness of enviromental issues and perceptions. Keep it up, i hope you’re tree form!

Global warming is becoming such an obvious problem that someone somewhere other than the US President needs to step up to help drive a massive campaign which aims to reduce Global Warming.
Great video, looks like it’s been taken from a video game.
