The other day myself and my co-conspirators left the green and pleasant safety of the West Country and headed down to that there tut’ London town for the annual summer works do. We got a direct train down to Paddington which was alright as it was a pretty quick journey. We then had to slog our way through the underground to the East end of London, all the while trying to avoid eye contact with the strangers sat opposite. As you do in moments of pure boredom, I started to read all the adverts plastered throughout the carriage. One advert that particularly struck my eye was a simple one for car hire, which instead of charging by the day charged by the hour. Now often in life there are certain times and situations where you could really do with a car or a van, if only for just a few hours. Car hire by the hour is a genius idea, especially for those who can’t afford the upkeep of a car, or for those who happen to live in big cities with congestion charges. At the moment trying to keep a car on the road would cripple my financially, I can barely pay my house bills at the moment let alone car insurance, mot, tax and petrol. However, my current state of non-car’ness can be problematic. Doing the weekly food shop for instance can be a nightmare without a car, especially if you’re nearest supermarket is 20mins away. Other simple journeys also take longer; visiting relatives takes coordination and planning, rather than simply hopping into the car on the spur of the moment. Car hire and van hire by the hour seems to be an incredibly sensible solution for those who lack mobility or the finances to achieve it. More and more car hire companies are turning towards this business model as the see the benefit of short term hire schemes over long term rental. Financially it’s always better to get a penny from the many than it is to get a pound from the few.

Hi there,
At first I thought it was a great idea but after calling and finding out more not sure any more.
You have to pay a fee or membership of £40 per the year(the amount might have changed now)so on your first time you might end up spending more that if you had rented a car for the whole day from a traditional car hire company.
Obviously, If you are going to use it many times during the year it might be worthy!
Hope it helps!
Maria
How I wish that this ‘Car hire and van hire by the hour’ idea will sensibly the solution for those who lack mobility. But as for me, if would be hiring such great cars being displayed here, I would certainly love to…
Handsome cars… Are these cars in the picture for hire? There’s no way I will refuse hiring such cars! Great post!
Car hire by the hour is a great idea. This would be helpful in emergency cases and in cases of car breakouts.
Hire car by the hour is indeed a brilliant idea. I like the concept. Thanks for the post!
What happens if you go into the next hour by a minute, have you got to buy the full hour?
Can you drop off at different locations.
Renting a full size van is a good option if you need to transport your belongings from one apartment to the next. You can save time and money by getting good discounts on full size Van Rentals in San Francisco. Many people prefer truck rental but in some cases they require a special license and can be more expensive. A cargo van is cheaper to hire and it doesn’t require any special driving license, very helpful inforamtion given by your blog.
Wow.
If you should rent those cars in Copenhagen, it would cost you a fortune.

Car and Van Hire by the hour is a seriously tidy solution to transport problems for those who only need it occasionally.
I would never have thought hourly van hire would have become an everyday reality. Being in the business, I am now looking into providing this service myself. It is quite ingenious.
Badger, pop down and we’ll do you a deal – lol!
Nice site btw, you have to say badger in a proper Devon accent though, teach these guys – emphasize the ‘a’ as an ‘ahhh’ and ‘dger’ as a ‘jer’!!!!
Going to read some more about badgers in Devon, I’m sure the farmers of Holsqworthy love you lol!
