Ahhh alas the golden days of the hippy movement, free love and the euphoria of Woodstock are no more, but in the hearts of many the summer of love and the liberal idealism of the 60’s and 70’s is still very much alive and chilling. Art and expression was an integral part of the hippy movement, many poets, painters and musicians used various different mediums to bring the ideas of the late 60’s into the public arena. One of my favourite forms of expression that has its’ roots within the hippy movement has always been graffiti-style art on VW vans. There are many ways to decorate a van, you can go for a simple stencil design like flames or waves, or like in some of these pictures you can go to town with the full nine yards.
Van 1 is your more traditional hippy-wagon, complete with symmetrical flowers, a people power statement and bizarrely alloy wheels. Nice finishing touch.

Flower Power dude...
Van 2 has gone for a more artistic feel with a star and rainbow motif, on the side is a great picture of Janis Joplin, the artist has really gone all out in his portrait of her – looks awesome.

Janis looking cool
This has to be my favourite. Van 3 is a mix of installation art, gardening and pure hippy-ness. If you’re ever looking for a feature for your garden, take a look around for some clapped out used vans, find one you like, buy it and then turn it into a shrubbery. It’s a bit crazy, but it looks fantastic.

Is it a bush? Is it a tree? No it's a VW van
