Starcraft downfall…

Ever since Blizzard’s announced release of Starcraft II in 2007 the internet has been abuzz with rumours concerning arguably the most popular RTS game of all time. The original Starcraft released in 1998 sold over 11 million copies worldwide and featured 3 separate expansion packs. For years Starcraft has been heralded as one of the greatest LAN games ever designed, thousands of gamers across the globe continue to battle it out as either a member of the Terran, Protoss or Zerg faction. Although fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel, it seems that Blizzard after almost 4 years of development and design have decided to make some significant changes that will upset a lot of LAN lovers out there.

The first and most significant change is that there will be no supported LAN options, the game is intended for single and multiplayer use, but multiplayer games will be forced to use Blizzard’s Battle.net system instead of regular LAN. The original Battle.net system caused a lot of problems for gamers, but it seems a large section of Starcraft II’s design time went into improving the Battle.net system.

The other major change revolves around the game layout. Instead of having three campaigns on one game, Blizzard has decided to release three separate titles all with an intertwined storyline. The first episode due to be released is entitled the Wings of Liberty and focuses upon Jim Raynor and his mercenary Terran campaign. The other two titles Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void focus upon the other factions and will be released at later dates.

For all the hype and excitement around the game it appears that some people are still not happy with LAN aspect of the game, one stern critic even released a video detailing his contempt… Take it away mine Fuher
