A couple of days ago I posted about my up and coming summer trip to the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands. Feeling slightly concerned about my lack of organisation I thought it would be best to work out a general plan of attack. I’ve already arranged car hire from Aberdeen airport so I’m sorted on the transport front, now all I need is a plan.
So far I’ve decided on four definite sites, these are the battlefield of Culloden, Loch Ness (of course), the Glen of Weeping and Loch Lomond.
Culloden
In 1745 Charles Edward Stuart, otherwise known as Bonnie Prince Charlie invaded England with a force of 5,000 Jacobites, mainly comprising of highland clan members. The army marched south and made it as far as Derby before they were forced to withdraw. On the 16th of 1746, Bonnie Prince Charlie’s army was soundly whipped at Culloden by the English army commanded by the Duke of Cumberland.

Loch Ness
There’s not a great deal that you really need to say about Loch Ness. It’s one of the largest and deepest Loch’s in Scotland. The loch is surrounded by beautiful countryside and it of course home to fabled Nessie.

Glen of Weeping
Glen Coe, or the Glen of Weeping, is considered to be one of the most spectacular and beautiful places to visit in Scotland. The landscape looks truly amazing and the area is steeped in Scottish history.

Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond is the largest fresh water lake in Britain and it also contains 60 small islands one of which is Inchmurrin, the largest fresh water island in Britain. Surrounded by spectacular scenery, Loch Lomond is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Scotland.

i think your plan sounds amazing. i am quite jealous of your scotland trip. my husband and i have talked of going, but i don’t think it will be soon enough. good luck and i hope you have loads of fun.
