Three must have games for the Xmas season…

November has always been the gamer’s month of choice. After a long drawn out year, through all the expo’s and game conventions, the run up to Christmas has always heralded the release of the years’ biggest super blockbusting titles. Thank Jeebus the postal strike has finally been called off as hundreds of gamers across the country are eagerly awaiting their pre-orders. This Christmas it’s going to be especially good as there’s a real bumper crop of soon to be award-winning titles. Here’s Treebadger’s top three that are bound to rock the charts and please fanboys everywhere.

No 3 – Dragon Age: Origins

RPG and BioWare fans are already cacking their pants about this one. The recently released cross platform RPG has already received acclaim from a wide majority of critics including the editor of Escapist magazine, thou Ben ‘Yahtzee’ Croshaw, author of the Zero Punctuation series is sure to provide a blow-by blow account of its’ failures. BioWare have long been known for their supremacy of the RPG market, some of their most memorable titles, including Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect, were resounding hits throughout the gaming community and achieved worldwide critical acclaim; lets just hope that Dragon Age: Origins will also be included in those exalted ranks.

Like most RPG’s the game includes hundreds of hours of questing, killing and generally stomping around the landscape talking to NPC’s. There are three races and three classes each with their own unique back stories which can be chosen and will ultimately influence progression throughout the game. As with most BioWare RPG’s party members will be numerous, but unlike KOTOR decision will not change the evil/good morality of party members, but it will change the story and it can even lead party members to do unexpected things.

No 2 – Assassin’s Creed 2

Bam! For me this one is the money shot. Ubisoft return with a sequel to their awarding winning title Assassin’s Creed. This time the plot unfolds in the treacherous and murky world of renaissance Italy during the 15th century. Once again Desmond will step into the Animus machine to relive the life of one of his assassin ancestors, along the way Ezio will learn new skills, abilities as well as gathering new items and tools.

It looks like Ubisoft have gone all out in their attempt to improve upon the games previous incarnation. A whole raft of changes has been implemented to make the sequel more enjoyable, more in-depth and more playable. A number of the more annoying issues such as the pointless talking sections, a stale combat system and the overall mission structures have been completely revamped to make a much more dynamic and open player experience. Assassin’s Creed 2 features a heavier and more in-depth storyline which, if the videos are anything to go by, will create a much bigger and more enthralling gaming experience.

No 1 – Modern Warfare 2

Well what can I say about this particular tech’d up fragging fest. Although this one isn’t on my must buy list, there’s no denying that Modern Warfare 2 will be game of the year. In the UK alone it’s estimated that 3million copies of the game will be sold in the week following its release. Just like always, Infinity Ward have produced the sleekest, most violently absorbing, bomb curdling, grenade loving FPS title on the market. Not only does the game deliver a superb one player mode, but it also provides gamers with an outstanding multiplayer setup. Anyone who has an itchy-trigger-finger needs this game and they need it now! Nothing else on the market even comes close.

All of this years top sellers also have the added bonus of being available on all 3 formats, so it doesn’t matter whether you’re on a Xbox 360 , a PS3 or even a PC. Alright!
