Welcome to the world of TreeBadger Video…. As my work progresses i’ll try and keep these pages updated and get links to all the videos plus a small summary of each one.
Well it was my first attempt at a WoW machinima and i’ve got to say that it came off pretty well. It took about a week to film on and off, and it was split over a couple of day. At points i got pretty frustrated and it was tough sometimes trying to get all the shots I really wanted. Most of them went well, some of the pan shots are a bit shakey but overall they worked. Next time I will definitely storyboard it out first, it was a bit ad-hoc, but I had the general scheme all sorted before.
Win Media Editor is a bit rough around the edges, but it’s free and useable to an extent. There is no fancy cool techniques or effects to really use, but as I said it does the job. The audio side of it however is not very good and there is no ability to mix tracks and overlay multiple tracks on one video. On the flip side thou it’s incredibly easy to use and you can get to grips with it within half an hour.
The videos intent was to draw a parallel between whats happening with global warming and climate change on Earth and how this is also represented within the realm of Azeroth. Whether Blizzard intended to represent these ideas within WoW or not i’m not sure, perhaps it just made good graphics and interesting zones. The video was not as dramatic as I had intended, but I feel that I adequately showed what I intended to potray.
Perhaps the best thing I managed to do was to get a mention within the community news on Blizzard.eu homepage. My thanks to Varimthras for putting a link in to the treebadger page. Hopefully i’ll be able to get another response on my next vid.
